A predictive design is a starting point. Walls, furnishings, interference, mounting and client behavior change the finished network. TechRunz performs repeatable onsite checks and returns evidence the design and operations teams can use.

Scope, prerequisites and ownership

Begin with the approved floor plans, AP schedule, predictive design, SSIDs, VLANs, authentication method, coverage/capacity thresholds and critical client types. Agree on test devices, tools, areas, working hours and evidence format before arriving.

Export current controller inventory and health. Differences between planned and deployed AP models, radios, channel widths, power, names or firmware can invalidate the original assumptions and must be reconciled.

Field execution and change control

Walk every required area and verify AP identity, position, orientation, mount, visibility and environment. Trace exceptions to switch port, VLAN, negotiated speed, PoE, cable result and upstream service. Photograph issues with location context while respecting site privacy.

Measure RF using a calibrated, repeatable method and the project thresholds. Review coverage, noise, interference, co-channel contention, channel reuse and band distribution. A strong signal by itself does not prove capacity or usable service.

Testing and exception management

Test association, 802.1X or captive portal, DHCP, DNS, internet and required internal applications. Use representative voice, scanner, laptop, mobile or IoT clients because radio and roaming behavior differs. Check handoff along defined paths and record interruptions.

Classify findings as configuration, cabling/PoE, RF placement, upstream service or client-specific. Avoid hiding a physical design issue with maximum transmit power. Assign a corrective owner and retest affected areas after changes.

Closeout and operational handoff

Compare final measurements with design thresholds and explicitly list exclusions such as inaccessible rooms, uninstalled shelving or future occupancy. Reconcile AP names, switch ports, serials and floor-plan positions with the management platform.

Deliver annotated plans, measurement files, AP and switch-port inventory, screenshots, client test results, photographs, exceptions and retest status. Record tool versions and assumptions so another qualified technician can reproduce the validation.

Information to gather before design

Good decisions are easier when the project team starts with complete operational and technical information. The following items help reduce assumptions, change orders and avoidable return visits.

Is a predictive survey enough after installation?

No. Onsite validation checks the real building, installed equipment, interference and client experience.

What signal level should every site use?

Use application- and client-specific design thresholds; one universal RSSI value is not adequate.

Why test with representative clients?

Client radios, drivers, authentication and roaming behavior vary and can expose issues a survey adapter does not.

What happens after a failed area is corrected?

Retest the affected area and dependent paths, then update the finding and final acceptance evidence.

Manufacturer software, firmware and technical files remain on the manufacturer’s official website. We do not mirror firmware files locally.
