Juniper Mist AP Onboarding and Validation
Juniper Mist access points are onboarded into a Mist organization and assigned to sites with active subscriptions. Cloud visibility alone does not prove successful installation; each AP also needs correct placement, switch port, PoE, VLAN, firmware, RF behavior, authentication and representative client testing.
Make each dispatch repeatable and recoverable
Define prerequisites, remote ownership, method of procedure, acceptance evidence and rollback before technicians arrive onsite.
Mist organization, site and AP pre-staging
Confirm the client-owned Mist organization, administrator role, subscription, site, WLAN templates, floorplans and approved firmware. Reconcile every AP serial or activation code to the equipment schedule before shipping.
Review model-specific mount, antenna pattern, environmental rating, Ethernet and PoE requirements. Validate switch ports, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, NTP and firewall paths to the correct Mist cloud region before dispatch.
The remote team should supply the site identifier, approved design, equipment list, configuration status, contacts, access window and success criteria. The field technician verifies serials, labels, damage, accessories and prerequisites before changing production service.

Mounting, cabling and onboarding
Install the AP at the designed coordinate, height and orientation using the correct bracket. Record room, serial, cable and switch port and photograph the installation with location context. Do not relocate an AP for convenience without design approval.
Claim or onboard through the supported workflow, assign the correct site and floorplan position and wait for configuration and firmware actions to complete. Confirm switch negotiation and PoE and investigate repeated disconnects before moving to the next area.
Use a written method of procedure with hold points for configuration-sensitive actions. Photograph and label the before state, preserve known-good cabling or configuration, and keep a practical rollback path. Record deviations as they occur instead of reconstructing them after the visit.

RF, identity and client validation
Verify AP connected state, radios, channels, power and expected WLANs after the system stabilizes. Test association, authentication, DHCP, DNS, required internal and internet applications and policy with representative devices.
Walk defined roaming paths and collect site-specific RF and service observations. Use Mist service-level and event data to investigate failures, but correlate cloud analysis with cable, PoE, switch and client evidence.
Validation must cover physical status, management visibility, addressing, uplinks, power, policies and representative user traffic. When redundancy is expected, test the approved failure and restoration scenarios. Escalations should include timestamps, identifiers and reproducible evidence.

Inventory, SLE and operational handoff
Reconcile Mist inventory, site and floorplan with serial, room, cable and switch port. Deliver client tests, RF observations, alerts, firmware, photographs and unresolved exceptions with owner and deadline.
Operations should own subscriptions, templates, firmware policy, administrator access, SLE monitoring and support escalation. Keep account recovery and protected configuration in the client repository.
Closeout combines annotated photographs, serials, port and cable records, software versions, test output, exceptions and ownership. Credentials and private configurations belong in the client-controlled repository, while public pages should point only to official manufacturer support resources.
